Record-Setting Sadler's Wells Filly Tops Tattersalls Breeze-Up Sale's Final Session

A Sadler's Wells filly sold for 150,000 guineas Thursday to top the second and final session of the Tattersalls breeze-up sale in England The price was a European breeze-up record for a filly.
In all, 58 horses were sold during the session for a gross of 1,753,200 guineas, an average of 31,904 guineas, and a median of 25,000 guineas. The final figures were 129 sold for a sale record gross of 4,115,700 guineas, an average of 31,904 guineas, and a sale record median of 25,000 guineas. The aggregate represented an increase of 5% over last year's figure while the record median was 25% higher.
The record-breaking filly was sold to Mikki Tsuge, acting on the behalf of Japanese owner Fusao Sekiguchi, who raced Kentucky Derby (gr. I) winner Fusaichi Pegasus. The filly was produced from the Shirley Heights mare Mountain Holly, a half-sister to group II winners Foyer and Earlene. Consignor Con Marnane purchased the filly for only 45,000 euros as a yearling.
