Regent's Walk, dam of millionaire Marquetry and French group II winner Spain Lane, died March 21 at Castleton Farm near Lexington from hemorrhaging after foaling a Fusaichi Pegasus colt that day. The colt, bred by Gaines-Gentry Thoroughbreds and Pacelco SA, was placed on a nurse mare.Marquetry was Regent's Walk's first foal. Sired by Conquistador Cielo, Marquetry was a grade I winner three consecutive years and earned a career total of $2,857,886. As a Central Kentucky stallion, he has sired Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I) winners Artax and Squirtle Squirt.Regent's Walk (Vice Regent -- Lover's Walk, by Never Bend) was bred in Canada by E.P. Taylor and raced for Edward A. Cox Jr. She captured two of 22 starts, was stakes-placed three times, and earned $75,771. In 1998, Cox sold Regent's Walk (in foal to Seeking the Gold) through Claiborne Farm, agent, to John R. Gaines Thoroughbreds for $550,000 at the Keeneland November breeding stock sale.Regent's Walk, 22 at the time of her death, produced a dozen named foals, seven of which won. She is the granddam of grade II winner Five Star Day.
