Saratoga grade II-winning sprinter Santana Strings has been retired from racing for stallion duty at Dr. William J. Solomon’s Pin Oak Lane Farm near New Freedom, Pa. A fee will be announced later.
Bred in Florida by Sez Who Thoroughbreds, Santana Strings won or placed in 20 of 40 races and earned $576,955 racing from ages 2 through 6. His big win came in the 2005 Amsterdam Stakes (gr. II) at six furlongs at Saratoga, with subsequent TVG Breeders’ Cup Sprint (gr. I) winner Silver Trainrunning third. He started the year with a runner-up effort to subsequent champion sprinter Lost in the Fog in the Ocala Stud Dash Stakes at Gulfstream Park.
Six-year-old Santana Strings, who won or placed in 11 stakes, raced at 2 for Shamrock Hill Farm, then for Ro Parra’s Millennium Farms while trained by Steve Asmussen. By Wheaton, he is out of the winning Prospectors Gamble mare Smiling Santanna.
