from the Winners Federation
The Winners Federation, which advocates for healthy lifestyle choices by racetrack workers, plans to re-establish a professional development and informational conference in 2009.
The organization, which is based in Frankfort, Ky., said the conference could be held in July either before or after the National Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association summer convention. The National HBPA has not yet announced a location or dates for its convention.
The conference would be designed for professionals that provide mental health and addiction counseling for the racing industry; human service and employee-assistance professionals; horseracing industry managers and officials; and others interested in the goals of the Winners Federation.
The organization is soliciting proposals for presentations at the conference. Topics include model programs, effective counseling techniques, and other issues of information value, the Winners Federation said in its fall 2008 newsletter.
