Golden Missile after crossing the finish line under Kent Desormeaux to win the Pimlico Special on May 13. Jerry Bailey will ride Golden Missile in the Breeders' Cup Classic.
Joe Orseno said Friday that Jerry Bailey will ride Golden Missile in the Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I), replacing Kent Desormeaux, who also is the regular rider for Fusaichi Pegasus. When it appeared all was still well with the Kentucky Derby (gr. I) winner on Thursday, Orseno made the switch to Bailey, who also will ride Perfect Sting in the Filly & Mare Turf (gr. IT) and Macho Uno in the Juvenile (gr. I) for Orseno.
Orseno's other Breeders' Cup hopeful, Top of the League, will be ridden by Mike Smith. The daughter of Light the Fuse is undefeated in two starts, having won the Manayunk Stakes at Philadelphia Park in her last start.
"Mike worked her at Churchill (Friday) morning," Orseno said, "and he called and told me, 'Lobby, beg, do whatever you have to to get her into the race.'"
Orseno also said his graded stakes winners Tap to Music and Collect the Cash, will not compete in the Breeders' Cup.
