Fara Bushnell , a longtime equine insurance agent in Lexington and a familiar face at many Thoroughbred auctions, is the co-owner of a Bernese Mountain Dog that won Best of Breed at the Westminster Kennel Club dog show in New York Feb. 10.
“It’s a huge deal; I’m over the moon,” said Bushnell after Ty (Ch Avatars Try Try Again) took the No. 1 spot.
Bushnell owns Ty in partnership with his breeder, Kim Groves. Bushnell also is the owner, in partnership with breeders Helen and Lauren McNeil, of another Bernese Mountain Dog named Katrina (Ch Bernherrs Storm Surge V Ayehli), who received an Award of Merit.
Bushnell operates Fortuna Insurance Services, which insures Thoroughbreds and show dogs.
Westminster is considered the most important dog event in the United States. It also is the second-oldest continuous sporting event held in this country, behind only the Kentucky Derby (gr. I).
