(Edited Magic Millions press release)
A Zeditave – Serious Matter filly brought Aust$220,000 (approximately $143,502 in U.S. funds) as the BMW Magic Millions Perth yearling sale ended its three-day run in Australia Feb. 13. Peter Caporn bought the filly from Heytesbury Stud.
“I have been to the Gold Coast and to New Zealand over recent weeks and she was the most outstanding filly in all three sales," Caporn said. "She is a beautiful filly and comes from one of the best producing farms in Australia. We are really looking forward to getting her to Frank Maynard to train."
The filly was one of six yearlings to sell for six figures during the final session. The total for the auction was 16.
"In my opinion the quality of yearlings on offer at this sale was the best ever," said Magic Millions managing director David Chester. "And I'm certain that those who were here this year will be back again next year. We're happy with how the sale rounded out today. We were able to sell a number of yearlings from earlier in the sale. The clearance rate of 74% is certainly acceptable considering the current economic condition.”
The final figures for the sale were 304 yearlings sold, a gross of Aust$11,630,000 ($7,586,016), and an average price of Aust$38,257 ($24,954). All fell short of 2008’s results. Last year, the 322 horses that sold grossed Aust$16,265,500 and averaged Aust$50,514. The clearance rate was 76%.
