Ministers Wild Cat Misses Santa Anita Derby

Ministers Wild Cat was scratched from the $750,000 Santa Anita Derby Saturday with a bruised right hind foot, trainer Neil Drysdale said.

"He galloped super (Friday) morning, but around noon he had a sore foot," Drysdale said.

Drysdale said he refrained from announcing the scratch Friday because owners Irving and Marge Cowan were en route from Hollywood, Fla., to Los Angeles.

A homebred by Deputy Minister out of 1993 champion filly/mare Hollywood Wildcat, Ministers Wild Cat is 2-1-1 from four starts with earnings of $112,050. The Kentucky-bred colt was 10-1 on the morning line for the Santa Anita Derby.

Drysdale said the ailment doesn't appear serious, meaning the bay colt could return soon.

"We'll see how he responds to treatment," Drysdale said.

Ministers Wild Cat is nominated to the $100,000 California Derby at 1 1/8 miles at Golden Gate Fields on April 12.
