E Dubai, sidelined from breeding activity.
Grade II winner E Dubai, who is standing his first season at stud at Darley at Jonabell near Lexington, was removed from stallion service March 25 because of penile hematoma. Prior to the injury, he covered more than 50 mares.
"He bred a mare that day, and everything went fine," said Jimmy Bell of Darley at Jonabell. "It was after the breeding that the rupture took place. A small (blood) vessel in his penile gland ruptured and produced swelling. It wasn't caused by any kind of accident. He wasn't kicked or anything like that."
E Dubai, a 5-year-old son of Mr. Prospector out of the stakes-winning Lord At War mare Words of War, has remained at the farm during the ordeal and is on medication. "We're going to evaluate him today (March 31) and let him heal properly," Bell said. "There's no timetable on when he'll be back."
A $1.35-million Keeneland September yearling, E Dubai won two grade II stakes and earned $920,800. His fee is $15,000.
