Danny Sorenson, who suffered a fracture at the base of his neck in a spill in Thursday's seventh race, was a visitor to the Santa Anita jockeys' room Friday afternoon.

The 45-year-old Seattle native looked well and was in good spirits, despite wearing a neck brace. The jockey said he hopes to return during the latter part of the Hollywood Park meet this summer.

"Dr. Mark Spoonamore of the USC Medical center looked at my previously viewed cat scans and X-rays, and followed that up with a new MRI of his own," Sorenson said.

"There's a fracture on, not of, but on the third cervical vertebrae. Dr. Spoonamore put me in this neck brace for four weeks. I go back to see him in 3 ½ weeks, and the amount of healing at that time will dictate what therapy and what more healing I need."

Sorenson, who had one win from 74 starts at the meet before the mishap, was not taking any pain killers. "I'm uncomfortable," he said, "but not dying of pain. I don't do pain medication."
