Letithappencaptain scored her first stakes win in the inaugural $100,000 Sarah Lane's Oates Handicap on a yielding turf course Saturday at Fair Grounds.

Bred by owner/trainer Whitney Zeringue, Letithappencaptain benefited from a ground-saving trip under Kirk LeBlanc.

The 3-year old daughter of Captain Bodgit opened up a three-length lead in the stretch and held off a late charge by Destiny Calls for a 1 3/4-length victory.

"She just missed in the Battler Star and since there wasn't a lot for her after that we decided to go to the turf," Zeringue said. "She ran great. Kirk got her through the hole going into the final turn and she beat a good field."

Scottish Heritage closed for third in the field of 12 Louisiana-bred 3-year-old fillies.

Making her turf debut, Letithappencaptain covered about a mile on the Stall-Wilson turf course in 1:43.61. She paid $19.20, $9 and $6.20.

"I had a super trip," LeBlanc said. "She was so relaxed on the backside and I just had a handful of horse. When the rail opened she just pulled me there."

Letithappencaptain jumped into stakes company after back-to-back victories to start her career as a 2-year-old. Saturday's win was her first in four starts as a 3-year-old. The $60,000 winner's check boosted her earnings to $121,300.
