Xtra Heat has been ruled out of Saturday's $2 million Dubai Golden Shaheen after she was found cast in her stall. She was taken to the Dubai Equine Hospital for examination, but was declared unable to run.

Trainer John Salzman senior said that Xtra Heat was lame in her left front ankle, but the injury is not serious. "She has some heat in the ankle, but no filling. It's part of the game, but not a part I like. It's a long way to come but it would have been a whole lot worse if I did something stupid like run her," he said.

Xtra Heat finished third to Caller One in last year's Golden Shaheen and had been looking to extend her North American distaff record of 25 career stakes victories. She will return to America on Sunday as scheduled and Salzman hopes she can continue her racing career.

Had she contested – and won – the Golden Shaheen, the $1.2 million winners' prize would have taken her past Spain's total of $3,540,542 million to become the all-time highest earning racemare in North America.
