Groom Killed in Accident at Mountaineer Park

Lisa Jackson, a groom at Mountaineer Race Track & Gaming Resort, died the morning of March 27 after a training accident at the West Virginia track.
Jackson, 35, of New Cumberland, W. Va., was employed by trainer John Semer. She sustained severe trauma to her skull when she attempted to control a runaway horse, according to a release from Mountaineer.
Lifeteam responded to the accident and immediately transported Jackson to East Liverpool City Hospital in nearby Ohio, where she died, the racetrack reported.
The Hancock County, W.Va., sheriff's department was called to the scene of the accident. Mountaineer and the West Virginia Racing Commission are gathering information.
