(Edited press release)
Thoroughbred owner and Food Network chef Bobby Flay has signed on to create a Kentucky-themed dessert to be served at the Kentucky Mansion Celebration Preview Gala, which will benefit the Kentucky Equine Humane Center. The event will take place Sept. 18 at 7:00 p.m.
Flay volunteered to contribute to the event upon learning that partial proceeds from the gala will benefit the KEHC near Nicholasville, which will use a percentage of the funds toward their mission of finding homes for horses in precarious situations.
Flay is a prominent chef, restaurateur, award-winning cookbook author, and television personality. Since his Food Network debut in 1996, Flay has continuously hosted programs that bring cooking tips and information on American regional fare to a national audience.
“I’m thrilled that Mr. Flay has agreed to create a ‘Kentucky-themed’ dessert for the gala,” said Margaret Jewett, owner of L.V. Harkness & Company and co-vice president of the KyEHC board of directors. “This gala will celebrate the culmination of months of planning and hard work by designers and supporters of the Old Governor’s Mansion revitalization. Bobby Flay appreciates how important history and horses are to Kentucky, so his involvement is a wonderful addition to this incredibly worthwhile project. We’re all looking forward to seeing–and tasting--what he creates."
