Rock Hard Ten, the multiple grade I-winning son of Kris S., got his initial winner and first stakes winner June 26 when Long Lashes won the Ballygallon Stud Stakes for juvenile fillies at the Curragh in Ireland. While making her racing debut, she defeated Elusive Galaxy by 2 3/4 lengths.
Trained by Mrs. J. Harrington, Long Lashes won the six-furlong event as a 14-1 shot over six rivals. The winning time over the “soft” going 1:15.24.
Long Lashes, bred in Kentucky by Robert LaPenta and Nick Zito, is out of the Boundary mare Border Dispute.
The Ballygallon was worth 52,250 euros, or approximately $73,500.
As a yearling, Long Lashes was sold by Lane’s End, agent to Ben McElroy, agent, for $95,000 during last year’s Keeneland September yearling sale. She won the Ballygallon under the McElroy Syndicate name.
Rock Hard Ten, out of the Mr. Prospector mare Tersa, stands at William Farish’s Lane’s End Farm. His 2009 fee is $40,000. A winner of the Malibu (gr. I) at 3 and the Santa Anita Handicap (gr. I) at 4, Rock Hard Ten won seven of 11 starts and earned $1,870,380 from 2004-05.
