Hip #471, filly; Medaglia d'Oro - Peridot by Gilded Time, brings $370,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July yearling sale.

As the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July yearling sale began winding down July 21, a Versailles, Ky.-based farm and racing stable purchased a Medaglia d'Oro   filly for $370,000.

Consigned by Warrendale Sales as agent for Bert Welker, the filly was produced from the unraced Gilded Time mare Peridot. Her second dam Jeanie’s Gift, an unraced Gulch mare, produced grade II winner Elaborate and is the granddam of grade III, multiple stakes winner Areyoutalkintome.

The filly was bred in Kentucky by Welker in 2007 when Medaglia d’Oro’s fee was $40,000. The stallion stood at the time at Stonewall Stallions and has since been sold and relocated to Sheikh Mohammed's Darley. Medaglia d'Oro's value has soared this year due to the success of classic-winning filly Rachel Alexandra and grade I winner Gabby's Golden Gal. The son of El Prado is currently North America's leading second-crop sire and ranks sixth on the general leading sire's list.

"I thought she was an awesome filly," said Randy Gullatt of Twin Creeks. "I thought she was a quality horse."

He said it was undetermined who would train the filly, noting that Twin Creeks has horses in training with several different top trainers.
