Logician Considered for Santa Anita Derby Trainer Craig Dollase said he is "strongly considering" the Santa Anita Derby for Logician, a $520,000 son of Tabasco Cat that prompted the pace and held well to finish a surprising fourth in the San Felipe Stakes (Gr. II). He was beaten by only two lengths at 86-1."We'll see how he works this week," Dollase said of the California-bred colt owned by his principal client, J. Paul Reddam. "I don't know what day I'll work him, but he doesn't need a lot of work, because he got a lot out of the San Felipe and he's already pretty fit. He looks good."Logician has failed to earn a check only once in six starts, that in the Hollywood Futurity (gr. I) on Dec. 21 when he finished sixth, eight lengths behind victorious Toccet.Logician has a win and two thirds from six starts with earnings of $62,100. There have been 15 California-bred winners of the Santa Anita Derby, including four in a row from 1996 through 1999 – Cavonnier, Free House, Indian Charlie and General Challenge.San Felipe runner-up Atswhatimtalknbout galloped about 1 ½ miles Sunday. "He'll work either tomorrow or Tuesday, probably Tuesday," trainer Ron Ellis said. "I'll probably go a half-mile and come back on Monday (March 31 for his final Santa Anita Derby drill). So far, so good."
