Under Irwin Rosendo, Kratisto was up early but got fanned wide for the stretch run in the 51/2-furlong race and just got up in the final strides over Three Day Rush, who was a head in front of Winslow Homer in the blanket finish.
Kratisto was bred in Kentucky by Gainesway Thoroughbreds. His sire, Afleet Alex , stands at the Beck family’s Gainesway near Lexington. It was the second start for Kratisto, who ran sixth in his debut a month earlier.
Kratisto was sold by Gainesway as agent at the 2008 Keeneland September sale. He was purchased for $130,000 by A. Ferris Allen as agent for M.W. Harding. The colt had been sold as a weanling to Hambrick Farm for $125,000 when consigned by Gainesway to the 2007 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky auction.
Out of the Risen Star mare Torch, Kratisto is trained by Allen and races for Linda Harding. The stakes-winning mare Torch is also the dam of stakes winner Morine’s Victory (by Victory Gallop) and stakes-placed Can’t Catch Fire (by Cat Thief).
Torch has a yearling full brother to Kratisto that was sold at this year’s Keeneland January sale. Consigned by Bluegrass Thoroughbred Services, agent, he was purchased by GEO for $10,000.
