Tenacious New York Hero Wins Lane's End
Heavily favored Private Gold and Day overcame a bumping incident with Acceptable Venture and Shane Sellers in upper stretch and went on to post a neck victory over that rival in the $100,000 Wild Rush Stakes for 3-year-olds at 1 1/16 mile. Day won his fifth race on the Turfway card aboard the son of Seeking the Gold in a time of 1:45 2/5. Paula's Pride was third, 2 1/4 lengths behind Acceptable Venture.Private Gold raced close to the pace of Brush With Gold through early fractions of :23 1/5, :46 4/5 and 1:12, mounting a four-wide challenge on the final turn and taking the lead as they straightened for the stretch. Acceptable Venture took a similar wide path from farther back, bumped the leader and stubbornly raced the 6-5 choice to the wire.Owned by Mountain Top Racing and Bob and Beverly Lewis and trained by Patrick Byrne, the Kentucky-bred Private Gold won for the first time in three starts this year while picking up a winner's share of $60,000. That pushed his career earnings to more than $200,000 with three victories from 10 starts.The winner paid $4.60, $3.40 and $2.80. Acceptable Venture returned $5 and $3.60. Bourbonette Breeders' Cup Stakes Favored Golden Marlin and leading rider Jason Lumpkins were disqualified from victory in the $150,000 Bourbonette Breeders' Cup Stakes for interference in the stretch, giving Adopted Daughter the win.The daughter of Elusive Quality, ridden by Dean Butler, was bumped by Golden Marlin, who drifted in at the eighth pole and continued to drift toward the rail in the late stages after clearing Golden Marlin. Final time for the one-mile test for 3-year-old fillies was 1:37 2/5 on a fast track.Golden Marlin crossed the wire 1 1/4 length in front of Adopted Daughter. Unbridled Femme was another 8 1/4 lengths back in third. The victory was worth $90,000 to Ken and Sarah Ramsey, owners of Adopted Daughter. Ronny Werner trains the winner, who paid $13 to win.Hansel Stakes Overbrook Farm's Quick Draw, favored at 4-5 with Day aboard, won the $50,000 Hansel Stakes for 3-year-olds by 1 1/2 lengths over Clayton's Trick, ridden by Lumpkins. Digimon was third, two lengths behind the winner.D. Wayne Lukas trains the Florida-bred son of Tale of the Cat, who paid $3.60 to win. Winning time for the six furlongs was 1:11 4/5.Queen Stakes There were three noses on the line in the $50,000 Queen Stakes for older fillies and mares, with Belle Artiste and rider Day prevailing over 2-1 favorite Timeless Love and 29-1 shot Ballado's Hero.
