Although history would place them a generation apart, jockeys Ron Turcotte and Calvin Borel will be meeting new and old fans alike in public autograph appearances at Saratoga Race Course Aug. 15-16. Both riders will be appearing at the Secretariat.com booth set up for the weekend adjacent to the jockey silks display.
Hall of Fame jockey Ron Turcotte, best known for piloting Meadow Stable's 1973 Triple Crown champion Secretariat, will meet fans and sign autographs beginning at 11:00 a.m. both Aug. 15 and 16. Joining Mr. Turcotte will be Secretariat's exercise rider Jim Gaffney who worked the champion colt early in his career.
The Meadow duo will be signing an assortment of official Secretariat merchandise and memorabilia to benefit the Secretariat Foundation, a non-profit charitable organization created by Secretariat's owner Penny Chenery to assist the Thoroughbred industry in the areas of research, rehabilitation, retirement and recognition.
Calvin Borel, 2009 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands and Preakness Stakes (both gr. I) winning jockey as well as the regular rider for Jess Jackson's Rachel Alexandra, will be available Aug. 16 from 11:00 am to noon to debut and sign the new limited edition print release of the super-filly by acclaimed equine artist Jaime Corum. The sale of the 16" x 20" portrait print, limited to just 500 pieces, will assist the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
