Jockey Julien Leparoux rallied Uncle T Seven from the back of the pack and onto a 2 3/4-length victory over Livin Large in the $150,000 Cab Calloway Division of the New York Stallion Series at Saratoga Race Course Aug. 12 (VIDEO).
Trained by John Morrison for Thomas Mina, Suzann Bobley, MFRG Racing Stable, and Dennis Brida, Uncle T Seven trailed the field of eight through fractions of 24.06 and 48.42, then came charging between horses in deep stretch to hit the wire in 1:42.51 for the 1 1/16th mile race over a turf course rated firm.
“That was the plan--save ground on the rail and wait,” said Leparoux. “I didn’t want to ask him too early, anyway. When I asked, he responded.”
It was the second victory in five starts this year for the 3-year-old Freud colt, who opened his 3-year-old campaign with a 3 1/2-length score in the NYSS Times Square division at Aqueduct March 29. Uncle T Seven, out of the Lord At War mare Holy Wish, earned $90,000 for the victory, which boosted his bankroll to $250,158 with a record of 3-2-4 from 11 lifetime starts.
Sent off at 2-1, Uncle T Seven returned $6.80 for a $2 win bet.
