The stakes-winning filly Burgeis brought Aust$310,000 ($256,525 in U.S. funds) Aug. 13 to top the opening session of the William Inglis & Son Melbourne August mixed sale in Australia. James Bester Bloodstock purchased the 4-year-old daughter of Catbird from Blue Gum Farm.
Produced from the Palace Music mare Grand Performance, Burgeis has captured two of her 16 career races while running for the Arch of Gold Pty. Ltd. Syndicate. She scored in the Betfair.com Proud Miss Stakes in May. Last year, she finished third in the Arrowfield Stud Blue Diamond Stakes (Aust-I), the Jayco Sires’ Produce Stakes (Aust-II), and the Arrowfield Stud Blue Diamond Prelude (Aust-III).
The results for the August sale’s opening session included a gross of Aust$1,282,850 ($1,061,558) for the 134 horses that sold. The average price was Aust$9,573 ($7,922), and the clearance rate was 84%.
