Egyptband, a 3-year-old Dixieland Band filly trained by Criquette Head, charged to a three-length win in Sunday's Prix de Diane Hermes--French Oaks (Fr-I) at Chantilly. Ridden by Olivier Doleuze and owned by the Wertheimer Brothers, Egyptband completed the 1 5/16 miles in 2:08.5 over good to soft turf.

4-5 favorite Volvoreta took the lead from Goldamix with a 1/4-mile to run but could not resist the late surge of the winner. Volvoreta held second, three lengths clear of Goldamix.

Egyptband is undefeated in three starts. Her French Oaks win was her first in stakes company. Her third dam, Reine de Saba, won the 1978 French Oaks while trained by Head's father, Alec.
