Battle Creek Girl, a multiple stakes producer who has been kept busy her broodmare years, produced her 20th foal, a Dixie Union filly, March 12 for Lane's End Farm owner William S. Farish and E. J. Hudson. The 26-year-old mare did not produce an offspring last year.
The big question now is will she be bred back? "She'll let us know," said Lane's End manager Mike Cline. "We'll look at her in about a month, and see if she's in good shape. We're thinking about Dixieland Band."
Dixieland Band, age 23, stands at Lane's End near Versailles, Ky. The farm also stands one of Battle Creek Girl's graded stakes-winning sons, Parade Ground.
Battle Creek Girl's newborn filly has been placed on a nurse mare. "Because of the mare's age, we wanted to make sure nothing happened to the old gal," Kline said.
Battle Creek Girl (His Majesty -- Far Beyond, by Nijinsky II) is represented by 17 starters, 15 winners, and additional stakes winners Wavering Girl (a champion in Canada), Tricky Creek, Speed Dialer, Everhope, and Parade Ground.
