Affluent, Starrer Get Equal Weights for Santa Margarita

Affluent and Starrer, grade I winners in their last races, have been assigned co-high weight of 121 pounds for Sunday's $300,000 Santa Margarita Invitational Handicap (gr. I) for older fillies and mares at 1 1/8 miles.

"She's doing too good (to quibble about the weights)," trainer Ron McAnally said Wednesday. "We've got to go."

Affluent, with an 8-5-3 record from 20 starts, has earned $1,433,415 for owner Janis R. Whitham. Affluent, a 5-year-old daughter of two-time Horse of the Year Affirmed, won the Santa Monica on Jan. 25.

The John Shirreffs-trained Starrer has a 5-5-3 record from 19 starts, with earnings of $863,033 for owner George Krikorian. Starrer, a 5-year-old daughter of Dynaformer, captured the Santa Maria on Feb. 16.

Probable for the Santa Margarita: Affluent, Julie Krone, 121; Bella Bellucci, Gary Stevens, 115; Got Koko, Alex Solis, 120; Printemps, Laffit Pincay Jr., 116; Sightseek, Jose Valdivia Jr., 116; and Starrer, Pat Valenzuela, 121.
