Nothing To Lose (11), here winning the Palm Beach Stakes.
Ken and Sarah Ramsey's Nothing to Lose, winner of the Tropical Park Derby and Palm Beach Stakes, has been sidelined indefinitely with a stress fracture of the left shin, suffered in a recent work at Gulfstream.
"He worked well, but he came out of it a little uncomfortable," Lukas said from his barn at Santa Anita. 'I told them to take a picture and it showed the stress fracture. It's non-displaced, which is good news. I don't want to speculate on how long he'll be out for until Dr. (Larry) Bramlage takes a look at him. He should be OK, but it's not OK for what we were looking for."
Lukas and the Ramseys had hoped to get Nothing to Lose to the Kentucky Derby, and had been planning on keeping him on the grass in the Translyvania Stakes at Keeneland before switching back to the dirt for the Derby.
The son of Sky Classic, who was bred by the Ramseys, had run twice on the dirt, finishing fourth both times. He broke his maiden on the turf in his career debut at Saratoga for trainer Chuck Simon before being turned over to Lukas.
Lukas said the Ramseys' other Derby contender, Ten Cents a Shine, who had was recently sent to him from Kenny McPeek's barn, has settled in well. No decision has been made where he'll make his next start.
The Ramseys also own the undefeated Badge of Silver, who is scheduled to run in Saturday's Louisiana Derby.
