San Felipe Stakes possibility Southern Image worked seven furlongs Friday at Santa Anita in company with Quite Careless in 1:26.40 for trainer Mike Machowsky.
"I backed off him a little bit after his last race (third to Kafwain in the San Vicente Feb. 1) because it was a hard race on him and I freshened him a bit.," said Machowsky of the 3-year-old son of Halo's Image owned by Blahut Stables.
"Then we got the rains and I didn't do a whole lot with him, just jogged him. I put an easy work into him last week and today was more serious. We'll make a game plan soon, definitely a mile or a mile and a sixteenth is what we're looking for. Where, we'll wait and see."
The San Felipe (gr. II) at 1 1/16 mile is Mar. 16.
Quite Careless, a 5-year-old "solid, high claiming horse," was clocked in 1:26.80 and finished about two lengths behind Southern Image.
Elsewhere, San Felipe candidate Siberland worked five furlongs for Kevin Lewis in :59.40.
