Camarero Race Track had one very satisfied customer March 15, in the form of a horseplayer who walked away from the Puerto Rico track $4.9 million richer.
The winning ticketholder collected his payout on Poolpote, a carryover incentive for pick six bettors at Camarero. To win the Poolpote, the ticketholder must have the lone winning pick six ticket that day. Poolpote is generated from 10% of daily wagers and is carried over from each race card. Seventy-three percent of the
Poolpote is paid out to the winner, with the remaining 27% carried over to start the next pool.
A single Poolpote combination costs 25 cents. The winning ticket was purchased for $10.30.
According to Camarero president Ervin Rodriguez, Poolpote has been offered for about 12 years, with over 50 winners. The largest payout was more than $14 million in March 2007, after the pool had been building for almost two years.
“I think this carryover is unique in the world,” Rodriguez said. “You won’t find anywhere in the world right now with a carryover as big as this. This is completely tax free, and it’s in U.S. dollars.”
The 27% percent carryover begins the new Poolpote at $1.7 million.
