Jockey Joe Steiner was in stable condition at Arcadia Methodist Hospital Thursday after suffering multiple injuries in a spill in Wednesday's sixth race at Santa Anita.

Steiner's mount, Snohomish Gemini, clipped the heels of Nlotsabutter, ridden by Matt Garcia. Nlotsabutter went on to finish first but was disqualified to last.

Steiner, a 38-year-old native of Renton, Washington, suffered a fractured orbital bone of his right eye, a broken nose, a broken front tooth, facial lacerations and a fractured right foot, according to hospital spokesperson Lynn Ingram.

Steiner, who was said to be in "good spirits" by Ingram, has one win from 58 starts at the meet.
