HBO Plans Movie On B.C. Pick 6 Scandal

HBO and actor Robert Wuhl have agreed to do a movie about last year's attempted Breeders' Cup Ultra Pick 6 betting coup that rocked the Thoroughbred industry.

Wuhl, who formerly was the creator and star of HBO's "Arli$$," will co-write and direct the movie as part of a larger three-year deal with HBO. Allan Stephen, a writer for Arli$$, will help pen the script for the movie.

Tollin/Robbins Productions, which produces Arli$$, will produce the film.

The story will be based on news accounts of the Breeders' Cup caper published in the New York Times. Wuhl said the story of three friends in their late 20's nearly pulling the scam of a lifetime offers plenty of intrigue for a movie.

At the conclusion of the Oct. 26 Breeders' Cup pick six, it was revealed the only winning tickets, which totaled over $ 3 million, were made through a Catskills OTB by a person named Derrick Davis.

A subsequent investigation by the U.S. Attorney's office revealed Davis' bet was fraudulent. Davis and two former Drexel University fraternity brothers, Chris Harn and Glen DaSilva, eventually pled guilty to fraud and conspiracy. All three are scheduled to be sentenced March 20 in New York.

"I see this as a story about growing up -- the scam story is only part of it," Wuhl told the Hollywood Reporter. "They pulled a scam that worked, but it worked too well. They left a lot of tracks, and they got caught."
