Life Is Sweet, the 2009 Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic (gr. I) winner for Martin and Pam Wygod, has been pronounced in foal to Smart Strike.
A 5-year-old daughter of Storm Cat, Life Is Sweet last raced in the Feb. 13 Santa Maria Handicap (gr. II) at Santa Anita. She finished second, exiting racing with six wins and five placings from 16 starts and earnings of $1,820,810.
Life Is Sweet, a homebred full sister to the Wygod’s champion Sweet Catomine, experienced her greatest success as a 4-year-old in 2009 while trained by John Shirreffs. She not only captured the Ladies’ Classic but also the Santa Margarita Invitational Handicap (gr. I), the La Canada (gr. II) and El Encino (gr. II) Stakes. She took on males in the TVG/Betfair Hollywood Gold Cup (gr. I), finishing third, and ran second to unbeaten champion Zenyatta in the Milady Handicap (gr. II).
Life Is Sweet’s dam, Sweet Life (by Kris S.), was honored by the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association and the Kentucky Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association April 21 at Keeneland as the Broodmore of the Year.
Life Is Sweet is boarded at William S. Farish’s Lane’s End Farm near Versailles, Ky.
