Overbrook Farm's homebred Katz Me If You Can earned her first stakes win in Sunday's $108,700 Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes (gr. III) at Keeneland. The D. Wayne Lukas-trained 3-year-old daughter of Storm Cat rallied from off the pace to win the six furlong race by 1 1/2 lengths in 1:09.42 on a fast track. Hurricane Bertie was second, 1 3/4 lengths ahead of My Alibi. 8-5 favorite Bourbon Belle, Cinemine, and Little Itch completed the order of finish.

Little Itch took the worst of a troubled start caused by Cinemine stumbling and swerving out, and the 38-1 longshot was never in the race, dropping back 12 lengths behind Katz Me If You Can after a quarter run in :21.46. Under Jorge Chavez, Katz Me If You Can moved up to third after a half-mile in :44.66 and swept by Hurricane Bertie in the stretch en route to the victory.

Katz Me If You Can earned $67,394 for her fifth victory in 13 career starts. Prior to the Sunday's win, her best showing in stakes company had been third-place finishes in both the Weekend Delight Stakes and the Honorable Miss Handicap (gr. III). As the third choice in the wagering, she returned $7.40, $3.60 and $3.60. Hurricane Bertie paid $3.40 and $3. 21-1 My Alibi was worth $4.20 to show. The winning exacta paid $25.80. (Chart, Equibase)
