The Thoroughbred Corp.'s Atlantic Ocean will make her next start in the Mar. 8 Fair Grounds Oaks (gr. II), trainer Bob Baffert said on Thursday. The daughter of Stormy Atlantic will be heading to the Big Easy with stablemate Kafwain, who is set to start in the $750,000 Louisiana Derby (gr. II) the following day.
"They're both a mile and a sixteenth races; one's worth $300,000 and the other is worth $750,000. It's a good spot for her," Baffert said.
Atlantic Ocean, a $1.9 million sales purchase, is currently riding a three-race win streak, having captured the Sunshine Millions Oaks, the Santa Ysabel Stakes (gr. III) and the Miesque Stakes (gr. III) on turf in her last three starts. Overall she owns a career line of 10-5-0-1 for earnings of $438,820. The filly's only other black-type score was a win in the Kentucky Cup Juvenile Fillies last year at Turfway Park.
Baffert also said that Composure will turn up next in the Santa Anita Oaks (gr. I) on the same day and will be ridden by Jerry Bailey, who was aboard the daughter of Touch Gold in her neck victory in the Las Virgenes Stakes (gr. I) last time out Feb. 9.
