Stonestreet Farm and Harold McCormick’s Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra went through her final exercise regimen June 7 in preparation for her return to competition June 12.
With Shaun Bridgmohan aboard for trainer Steve Asmussen, the 4-year-old daughter of Medaglia d'Oro went a half-mile in :49 1/5 over a fast track at Churchill Downs. She was clocked in fractional times of :12 3/5 and :25 for the first quarter mile and galloped out five-eighths of a mile 1:02 4/5 upon completion of the work, which ranked 15th among 45 horses working the distance.
"Everything seemed very comfortable," Asmussen said in a release.
A spokeswoman for Stonestreet Farm's owner Jess Jackson said there would be no announcement June 7 of which race Rachel Alexandra would contest June 12. As previously outlined by Jackson, the options are the $600,000-added Stephen Foster Handicap (gr. I) and $200,000-added Fleur De Lis (gr. II), both at Churchill Downs. The Stephen Foster would send the 4-year-old up against older males while the Fleur De Lis is limited to fillies and mares.
The other June 12 races under consideration are the Ogden Phipps (gr. I) for older fillies and mares at Belmont Park and the Obeah (gr. III) for the same division at Delaware Park.
Rachel Alexandra has a career record of 11-4-0 in 16 races, with earnings of $3,074,050. Rachel Alexandra is winless in two starts this year after an undefeated campaign in eight races in 2009.
