Seeking to improve the health and lives of horse racetrack employees, backstretch workers, and horse farm personnel, the Winners Federation, a non-profit organization, will hold its annual professional conference at the Radisson Plaza Hotel in Minneapolis, Minn. July 25-26.
Under the theme “Healthy Workers for Healthy Horses,” the conference offers professional development and continuing education for those who care for the human side of the horse racing industry--counselors, chaplains, security personnel, affiliated professionals, interested organizations, and racetrack management.
The 2010 Winners Federation Professional Conference will consist of presentations by credentialed and qualified professionals on alcohol and substance abuse services, problem gambling, creating and sustaining racetrack wellness and counseling programs, financial stability for clients, the basics of effective prevention programs, and the linkage between the racetrack chaplain and counseling professionals.
The conference will immediately follow the National Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association summer convention, also to be held at the Radisson Plaza Hotel, July 21-25. The registration fee for the conference, which provides eight hours of continuing education units is $150 if paid by July 12; $175 is paid after that date or on site. All educational materials, breaks, a reception July 25, and a luncheon July 26 are included in the registration fee. Accommodations at the Radisson Plaza Hotel are $130 single, $145 double, plus tax.
