European Horse of the Year Sea The Stars (Cape Cross--Urban Sea, by Miswaki) covered 140 mares in his first season at stud, reported racingpost.com. Sea The Stars stood his initial season for €85,000 (approximately US $105,000). The mares he covered included Japanese champion Vodka and the Aga Khan’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (Fr-I) winner Zarkava. Sea The Stars stands at the Aga Khan’s Gilltown Stud in Kildare, Ireland.
Bred by the Tsui family’s Sunderland Holdings in Ireland and raced by Christopher Tsui, Sea The Stars is out of Urban Sea (by Miswaki), the dam of six other stakes winners and three champions. A highly coveted stallion prospect, Sea The Stars won six group I races, including the rare treble of the 2,000 Guineas, the Epsom Derby, and the Eclipse Stakes. He also annexed the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe as part of a perfect 3-year-old campaign in 2009. Gilltown Stud manager Pat Downes told racingpost.com that Sea The Stars is now enjoying a “well-earned break.”
