Winter weather and the lingering effects of an ice storm in Kentucky forced Turfway Park to cancel its fifth consecutive program Feb. 19. Overall, the Northern Kentucky track has lost seven programs since Jan. 1.

The streak began Feb. 13, when a thaw rendered the racing surface unsafe. Poor weather conditions Feb. 14-16 forced three more cancellations. Turfway was scheduled to reopen for live racing Feb. 19, but snow and ice fell during the morning and early afternoon hours.

Many horses that compete at Turfway ship in from Lexington, which is still reeling from a weekend ice storm, and Louisville.

The Feb. 19 cancellation did not disrupt simulcasting, which continued in the track's race book. Live racing was scheduled to return Feb. 20.
