Del Mar Futurity (gr. II) winner Icecoldbeeratreds was euthanized at Santa Anita Park Wednesday morning after fracturing his shoulder during his first gallop back since undergoing knee surgery last fall.

"He was just starting his gallop when it shattered," trainer Bob Baffert said. "He couldn't be saved." The colt had been jogging at Santa Anita for about 30 days before suffering the fatal injury.

"For some reason, out here in California, horses coming back (from injuries) are more susceptible to shoulder injuries," Baffert said.

Icecoldbeeratreds, bred and owned by Mike Pegram, won three of five starts as a 2-year-old, taking the Graduation Stakes at Del Mar in addition to the Futurity. He finished second to Toccet in the Champagne Stakes (gr. I) in his only start outside of California, then was sidelined with a knee chip while training for the California Cup in late October. The son of In Excess -- Guilded Times, by Crafty Prospector, was named champion California-bred 2-year-old male of 2002 by the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association. His name comes from Red Tracton's bar and restaurant located across the street from the Del Mar racetrack.
