The six-day mixed breed meet at Montana Downs at Great Falls ended Aug. 1 with increases in total and average daily wagering. Handle for the meet, which consisted of Thoroughbred, Quarter Horse, and Paint Horse racing, totaled $342,070 for a daily average of $57,011, which was up 4.6% over the 2009 average of $54,502 for a five-day stand.
Jeff Jones was the leading rider with 17 victories, more than double the eight races won by his nearest rival Clyde Smith. Randy Blasdel was the top trainer in victories with five.
Montana racing resumes Friday, Aug. 13 and Saturday, August 14 during the Western Montana Fair in Missoula.
