2001 3-year-old filly champion Xtra Heat seeks to defend her title in Saturday's $200,000 Barbara Fritchie Handicap (gr. II) at Laurel Park. Now 5, Xtra Heat will tote highweight of 125 pounds for trainer John Salzman Jr. She triumphed over this strip in her last race, the What A Summer Stakes.

Carson Hollow, who ran brilliantly for much of last year, including her memorable nose defeat to You in the Test Stakes, will be making her 2003 bow in the Fritchie, which is run over seven furlongs. The 4 year old has not run since trailing the field in last year's Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I).
