Marvin Shapiro, Son of Native Diver's Owner, Dies

Marvin J. Shapiro, son of L.K. Shapiro, who owned Hall of Fame Thoroughbred and California-bred champion Native Diver, died Feb. 10 at the age of 83.
Shapiro was the father of Tom Shapiro, who owns California Cup Classic winner Calkins Road. In the late 1960s, Marvin Shapiro was president of Western Harness Racing, Inc. and spearheaded legislation that sanctioned night horse racing in California.
Services were Tuesday.
