Kristin Finkel has been promoted to the position of director of marketing at Golden Gate Fields, track general manager Robert Hartman announced Aug. 20.
Finkel, who earned a degree in agricultural business at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, has been working in the department since her hiring in August 2005. She was promoted to marketing manager in May 2007.
She was instrumental in developing Golden Gate Fields’ popular "Dollar Day" program, which offers fans $1 specials (parking, admission, racing programs, beers, hot dogs, and sodas) every Sunday. She has also been active in promoting live musical entertainment, and during football season, the opportunity to see all the action via the NFL Sunday Ticket.
Finkel also introduced the Wiener Nationals, a series of races for dachshunds that are presented between Thoroughbred races, to Golden Gate Fields. A Wiener Nationals event in 2009 at Golden Gate Fields attracted an on-track crowd 11,462, the largest gathering at the track in 15 years.
She will be assisted in the Golden Gate marketing department by marketing associate Dan Cirimele.
