Hall of Fame trainer Allen Jerkens said he won't try Spite the Devil in Saturday's Fountain of Youth Stakes (gr. I).

"I'm going to run him in an allowance race going long on Saturday, instead of the Fountain of Youth," the legendary trainer said. "He's only won two races in his life and the conditions of the allowance race fit him much better than running with those tougher horses in the Fountain of Youth."

Bred in New York by Elisabeth Jerkens, Spite the Devil is by Devil His Due out of the Cryptoclearance mare Samantha D. He has two wins, two seconds, and two thirds from eight starts and has earned $124,815. In his last start, he finished 10th in the Holy Bull Stakes at Gulfstream on Jan. 18.
