Heavy rain and high winds from a storm moving up the East Coast led Belmont Park in New York to cancel live racing and full-card simulcasts for Sept. 30.
Officials said telephone and Internet wagering through NYRA Rewards will be available throughout the day.
According to weather.com, Belmont is located in the area expected to get six to 10 inches of rain through Friday morning. The storm will then move away, with sunshine and a high temperature of 67 degrees predicted for Oct. 2, the day Belmont hosts five grade I stakes highlighted by the Jockey Club Gold Cup.
Patrons at Belmont Oct. 2 will receive a free baseball cap in celebration of the biggest day of racing during the fall championship meet, with paid admission, while supplies last.
The New York Racing Association is also offering a $500,000 guaranteed all-grade 1 pick four Oct. 2—the Flower Bowl, Beldame, Joe Hirsch Turf Classic, and Gold Cup.
