After 23 years at Beulah Park in Ohio, Mike Weiss has formed his own consulting business with a focus on horse racing, concerts, and events.
Weiss started at Beulah Park as racing secretary in 1987, and in 1996 became vice president and general manager. He was actively involved in launching the AmericaTAB.com account wagering service in 2000 as general manager.
Beulah Park, the first track in the country to use Equibase when the partnership was launched in 1991, was sold by private interests to Penn National Gaming Inc. in July. Weiss was asked to stay on as general manager but said it was time to move on.
Weiss and his family live in Grove City, where Beulah Park is located.
“I’m happy for Beulah Park and happy for Grove City, but it’s a big change for me,” Weiss said. “I decided it was time to step out. I’m doing what a lot of other people are doing—consulting.”
Weiss is assisting a new company called Avatar Ventures launch an online pari-mutuel wagering site to be called darkhorsebets.com. The service is licensed in North Dakota.
“I hope to stay involved in racing for a long time,” Weiss said. “That’s my passion.”
