Playa Maya, the dam of Champagne Stakes (gr. I) winner Uncle Mo , will be offered at The November Sale at Fasig-Tipton Nov. 7. She will be offered by Denali Stud.
“Playa Maya is an exceptional young mare by Arch,” said Denali Stud owner Craig Bandoroff. “Uncle Mo’s brilliance gives a breeder great hopes for her future as she is only ten years old.”
Playa Maya is out of the Dixieland Band mare Dixie Slippers. Playa Maya was a three-time winner from six starts and was bred in Kentucky by Dr. D. Michael Cavey, who also bred Uncle Mo.
Property of Respite Farm, Playa Maya sells as Hip No. 122 and is infoal to Broken Vow . Uncle Mo, was sold by by Respite Farm with Bandoroff acting as agent, at the 2008 Keeneland November sale for $160,000.
Uncle Mo, a son of Indian Charlie, came close to breaking a record with his wire to wire performance in the $300,000 race Oct. 9. His time in the Champagne of 1:34.51 drew comparisons to 1976 winner Seattle Slew(1:34 2/5) and 1983 stakes record holder Devil's Bag (1:34 1/5). Uncle Mo’s next start will be the Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (gr. I) Nov. 6 at Churchill Downs.
