A record Tattersalls (England) October yearling sale price of 450,000 guineas was paid Thursday by Anthony Stroud for a Darshaan colt produced from the Shadeed mare Touville. The price paid by Stroud, representing Ivan Allen, exceeded the previous October record that had been set earlier in Thursday's session when agent Charlie Gordon-Watson paid 440,000 guineas for a Cadeaux Genereux -- Flitteriss Park (by Beldale Flutter) colt.
Tattersalls reported 191 yearlings sold Thursday for a gross of 11,871,500 guineas. The session average of 75,136 guineas represented a 96% gain over the comparable day one year ago when 189 yearlings averaged 38,313 guineas from a gross of 6,436,600. The sales company reported that through the sale's first three days, 56 yearlings had brought final bids in excess of six figures, compared with the 19 that sold for 100,000 guineas or more during the entire five day sale last year. The sale concludes Saturday.
