From NYRA press office:

Javier Castellano returned to the races and to the winner's circle Thursday, less than 24 hours after narrowly escaping serious injury in a one-horse spill at Aqueduct. Castellano won Thursday's fifth race on favored Message Red, his second mount of the day.

"I'm feeling good," he said between races. "I'm so glad. I was very lucky yesterday. I watched the replay and when the horse tried to get up she almost kicked me."

Castellano was thrown hard to the racetrack in Wednesday's eighth race after River Salt shattered her right front leg. He decided to go to North Shore hospital for X-rays on his neck and shoulder, and was released with a clean bill of health. River Salt was euthanized.

Castellano, 25, continues to hold a commanding lead over Richard Migliore in the battle for leading rider honors at Aqueduct.
