In what amounts to a massive coup for the New Zealand Thoroughbred industry, Peter and Philip Vela have announced the purchase by their Pencarrow Stud of 20 broodmares in foal to Irish sensation Danehill.
Pencarrow Stud has purchased the 20 mares, in foal on southern time to Danehill, from Coolmore Stud. Danehill (Danzig -- Razyana, by His Majesty) stands at Coolmore in Ireland. With Danehill no longer shuttling to the Southern Hemisphere, opportunities to offer his progeny in this part of the world in the future are going to be extremely rare.
Pencarrow views this as a wonderful and unique chance to add some top quality international broodmares to its already very select broodmare band. Peter Vela commented that he very much welcomed the opportunity this investment provides to further enhance the top end of what will be New Zealand Bloodstock's 2005 Premier Sale catalogue.
