Blas Ceoil, who is in foal to 2009 Horse of the Year Sea The Stars, topped the opening session of the Goffs November breeding stock sale, bringing €300,000 ($407,946 in U.S. funds) Nov. 19 in Ireland.
De Burgh Equine purchased the 4-year-old winning daughter of Mr. Greeley from trainer Jim Bolger’s Redmondstown Stud.
Bred in Kentucky by WinStar Farm, Blas Ceoil was conditioned by Bolger and raced for the trainer’s wife, Jackie. The dark bay or brown filly captured two of her nine career races and finished third once.
Blas Ceoil is a half sister to Radharcnafarraige (by Distorted Humor ), who scored in this year’s Coolmore Stud Fillies’ Sprint Stakes (Ire-III); Alienated (by Gone West), who captured the 2003 Golden Triangle Stakes at Delta Downs; and 2004 Japanese added-money winner Exhaust Note (by A.P. Indy). Their dam, the Storm Bird mare Extraterrestral, was a winner.
The session’s results included a gross of €4,059,200 euros ($5,519,780) for the 164 horses that sold. The average price was €$24,751 ($33,657) and the median price was €18,500 ($25,157). The clearance rate for the 235 horses offered was 70%.
